Downtown

Craig- This photo was taken in downtown tucson and I think captures the history of the community, the older buildings are in the front with the sort of modernizing skyscraper in the background of the image portraying the change that the city has already made. I made the photo black and white to emphasize the buildings.

Rialto

Craig- I took this photo of the old Rialto theater to portray the history that the Tucson community has to offer, this building has been around a long time and the black and white I think helps tell the story of the community culture. Old buildings are a good example of community where memories are shared, and generations have survived through.

Guy With Beer

Dameyon- When you usually mention the homeless community, automatically the thoughts of drugs, alcohol, and beggars come to mind. This guy spends his day from one park to the next trying to keep cool, but when the sun finally goes down he gets his party on with the rest of the people of Tucson. “This is the only time I look like everyone else.”

Arnott

Dameyon- Arnott is no stranger to the Tucson community. This man as been living in Tucson for a long time and has been homeless half that time. He is a veteran of the Army where he served in Vietnam. He was placed in Tucson with the expectations of receiving services from the VA here in town. A year or two says Arnott, the services stopped coming and he slowly vanished from the system. He turned to the streets for his means of survival and hasn’t looked back since. Arnott sa
ys that “I love it here in Tucson, the pe
ople can be just as nice as the weather and I love to sunbathe in this beautiful sun. Can you bum a smoke?”

Homless

Dameyon- The homeless have been around for a long time now and due to recent years of many tragic events, such as Hurricane Katrina, economic downfall, and victims of the military warfare left alone to handle the aftermath—the homeless communities are growing rapidly.

Dameyon- This family (which not so uncommon in the homeless community now) fell victim to homelessness once the economy fell. The bills begin to pile up
and work became scarce for both the husband and wife—no college for these two kids!

(Originally from Idaho came to Tucson for work.)

Congress Hotel

Craig- When I think of community the fist thing that comes to mind is landmarks or historical buildings that are well known through the city or state. I think this photo captures the idea of community best, with the hometown feeling and public attraction that is given off by the people sitting outside for a meal. The sepia effect on the photo makes it easier to see past the details and view the image as a whole.
